The busy town of Chora and port or airport of Naxos are a 10 minute drive; there are many shops, restaurants, entertainment and museums, as well as the historic old town of Naxos, the famous Portara temple gate and St George's Beach. Ferries and catamarans leave regularly from the main port to the mainland or nearby islands. The fishing port and fish restaurants of Agia Anna and sandy beaches of Plaka are a short drive or 30 minute walk away. The exciting kite and windsurf centre at Mikri Vigla beach is about 20 minutes drive.

Direct flights from many European countries fly to Santorini or Mykonos in the summer months, the closest international airports to Naxos, check with Easyjet, Aegean or your national airline. Flying into Athens, take a domestic flight with Aegeanair or Skyexpress to Naxos, or take a ferry or catamaran from the port of Piraeus, about 1.5 hours from Athens airport, or Rafina, 45 minutes from Athens airport.

Island Hopping around the Greek islands
In the summer months Naxos is connected by ferry to many islands including Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, Crete, Syros, Amorgos, Andros, Folegandros, Milos, Sikinos and the small Cyclades of Koufounisi and Schinoussa. Out of season connections are less frequent to the smaller islands, but there is a year-round connection between Paros, Santorini and the small Cyclades. Remember that ferries are sometimes subject to the weather conditions so may not always run on time!

When is the best time to visit Naxos?
Naxos in April or May is time for spring, wild flowers and bird watching, hiking Naxos' inland footpaths, cycling, touring and visiting the villages, but also for glorious warm days when the beach beckons and the turquoise sea, though cool, looks inviting. June in Naxos is a beautiful month, not too busy but summer in progress, ideal for families with younger children or those who don't like crowds, watersports, beach and days exploring the island, evenings of great food under the stars.
